Striping Tape?

Sunday, May 2, 2010
Hi dear reader!

Today I want to talk to you about striping tape. The tape I own comes from Dollar Nail Art - Natasja didn't used it so I took it because I wanted to try so bad. Everytime I see art with striping tape my heartbeat races, it can look soooooo good!

I've read about this on numerous sites and they all told me it was easy peasy. So I thought nothing could go wrong with clumsy me! Guess again... It's not because I'm clumsy or impatient, it's the tape that ruins it all! I seriously needed three coats of top coat to make it stick and after that it still looked kind of weird. Here's the result:

Stripingtape

I used China Glaze - Liquid Leather as my basic black and the gems come from the Essence Nail Jewels set. It looks okay. The striping tape looks pretty good after the trouble I had from it but the gems are a little too much for me.

Do you have any experience with striping tape? Any tips or suggestions?
Have a nice evening!
Michelle

I have never tried it but seems like it could be a pain. I am guessing as with anything it takes some practice. The mani is beautiful though.

I have no striping tape experience. I like the gems and how you placed everything. I'm looking forward to learning more about it all through your experiences and blog. Thank you

Very cute! You should try some nail foil. That's so much fun too :)

I've read so much about it and I think I'll screw up with it - people who are more creative than me had issues with it so I did the math and blahhh :D Maybe I'll try someday!

I love to use stripping tape.. and i think the stripping tape that Im using is way too slim than urs..I carefully put the stripping when my base polish is slightly dry.. and add a thick coat over it...

Ahhh striping tape. I used that a lot way back when. Here is the best tip: When applying, lay the end of the tape just about a millimeter or two from where your nail polish ends near your cuticle, cut it so that it is just a millimeter or two short of the tip of your nail. No one is going to notice and this keeps the tape from curling up after a couple days of tip wear.
Use very sharp, small scissors to cut the tape or you get bends that are never going to lay flat.
Don't pull the tape to taught, just lay it on the nail.
Apply two thin coats or one thick coat of topcoat and you should be good to go.
If the mani lasts to the 3rd day (cuz you didn't change it) apply another coat of tc and keep rocking that mani!
Hope this helps. I used to use this stuff all the time, but haven't since my passion for polish has been reignited, so I'll have to do something fun in the future.
